I began riding a bicycle in New York City while working as a messenger in 1997. Since then, the city has changed. Bikes abound in a city where a mayor once tried to ban them from midtown streets. Hundreds of miles of bike lanes. Hundreds of thousands of cyclists take the streets every day. Today, the bicycle isn't just a means of transportation, it's a statement. I began documenting the bike boom in 2006. Photos from this body of work have been published by The New York Times, the Village Voice, Urban Velo, COG, Velosophie and spawned the unique guide/culture book BIKE NYC.
