I rode out to Redhook last night to photograph the 3rd annual Redhook Criterium–an unsanctioned bicycle race through a desolate post-industrial area of Brooklyn. When I arrived I parked my bike, spun around to say hello to someone and my camera fell from my bag. I realized (the hard way) that the light stand and monopod I had strapped to the outside of my backpack had caused the zipper to open. The long sleeve Breakaway Courier jersey I had wrapped my camera in did little to protect it. The damage? My wide angle lens, which I use 95% of the time, was AFU. I was not happy. But after a ride around the course with my friend Fritz, I grabbed a Colt 45 tall boy, posted up in the chicane and put on my long lens. Here are a couple of the photos I made. Look for a couple more in the next issue of Urban Velo.
